We were delighted to host this SAP user group meeting and shared the story of how Marston’s smooth the path for SAP upgrades.
The company had a complex SAP environment – comprising the finance, sales, production planning and warehouse management modules – and a mountain of custom development. But Marston’s had no test scripts and IT didn’t have a full understanding of how the business used the applications. Faced with this challenging scenario, they wondered how they would successfully manage all the testing for this mission critical upgrade in a demanding timescale.
With improvements made to their testing process they were able to accelerate the SAP upgrade. They kept costs down, enabled business and project people to spend less time in manual validation, and focussed effort on areas of change. It had reduced risk for Marston’s.

Paul Mervin of Proceed Group described the future of S/4HANA at the same time highlighting why it is important to streamline the data you put into HANA, to ensure it runs simply, powerfully and efficiently. Using Marston’s as the success story, he described how the largest part of the project (perhaps as much as 60%), would be the recurring need to validate, without which there will be gaps and exposure to risk. A joined up test strategy on the path to HANA will deliver success faster with less risk.
