Software Tester

Quality Software Testing

Your Goal: Quality of the software product can be guaranteed if the testing is done by a team of good testers. As part of the QA team, you must ensure that software bugs are found, recorded and tactfully communicated back to the development team. Understanding how to work coherently with developers is fundamental to your everyday working environment as well as putting forward your reasons as to why a particular bug needs priority time over others.

Your Challenge: To accurately test applications, report software defects and deliver on time. Good software quality should be the outcome if your challenges are met.

There is no complete substitute for manual testing. Manual testing is crucial for the thorough testing of software applications. Although ways of automating this process have been available for over 20 years it is often not appropriate or convenient to automate.

Automation can only be justified where repeatable consistent tests can be run over a stable environment. When this isn't the case (for example during the early stages of the test cycle or when the application is complicated and the business risk is large) then testing teams almost always revert back to manual testing.

Initial Thoughts

  • Our whitepaper 'Manual Testers Do Not Grow on Trees' suggests there is a better way to manual testing than just throwing more resource at it.
  • Maybe these sound too familiar?
"I have too much work to start an automation project."
"We tried automation and it just created more work."
"I do not want to learn a complex scripting language."
