Feb 2, 2012, – Original Software, a leading Application Quality Management (AQM) vendor, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Affymetrix, Inc. (NASDAQ:AFFX), to support a strategy of building an AQM Centre of Excellence for the provider of genome-wide analysis tools. Original Software’s solution suite has been selected because of its ease of use and ability to support the FLEX technology that is used within Affymetrix’s hosted HR application.

Researchers around the world use Affymetrix technologies to better understand the role that genes play in disease, the effectiveness and safety of therapies, and many other biological factors that affect human well-being. As a company whose mission is to revolutionize how the world benefits from genetic information, Affymetrix took a similar approach in choosing its software testing partner.

Maintaining compliance with FDA Quality System requirements is business-critical to Affymetrix and was an important factor in selecting a software testing solution. Quality documentation is produced and managed within its content management application, SharePoint. Surapaneni explained: “All our Quality documents are stored in SharePoint, and any changes to our content management application have to be thoroughly tested. I was particularly impressed with how Original Software was able to execute PDF comparisons as part of the test to ensure that our compliance audit documentation was not corrupted.”

19 December 2011 – An IT adaptation of a popular children’s Christmas story has sparked much interest within the software testing community today. George Wilson, the company’s Operations Director, will be sailing with team mate and daughter Laura Wilson, at tomorrow’s gruelling 4 day event alongside side some of the world’s best sailing teams from France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands and Sweden.

The location chosen by the WPNSA, offers the combination of good winds and a range of sailing water from sheltered to open sea. The unique low tidal range in the UK will add an extra challenge to the championships, which are set in the centre of the Jurassic Coast.

A Business Transformation
Dale Cook, Manager of Software Development, Euronet, explains “We have made significant savings initially in terms of storage capacity, reducing the size of our test environments by around 85 percent. The new suite has allowed us to look at test planning from a whole new perspective and change the way that we addressed quality assurance within the organisation. Within the year, we have been able to more fully regression test each new release. We’ve been really impressed with the new solution, the use of variable data and the ability of the scripts to self-heal is so powerful, facilitating re-use of a single script multiple times. Instead of manually testing one account combination and all its permutations, we can now automate the testing of 15.”

Full Automation and Test Data Management
Euronet has the added challenge of having its test environments conform to payment card industry standards when ensuring software quality.

The database extraction functionality within Original Software’s TestBench allows test teams to quickly and easily extract data from live systems, creating a subset for use in a realistic testing environment. Data scrambling allows for the sanitisation of customer records and high risk items, safeguarding the records, as well as the company itself, from legal ramifications and compliance laws. The data protection module allows users to create checkpoints, rolling back the changes and resetting the environment if it becomes corrupted by any testing activity, thus ensuring its ability to be re-used on further developments or regression tests.

By implementing TestDrive, Euronet has moved away from a once annual, very manual, labour intensive process to being able to more fully regression test on each new software release. With wider test coverage, the software releases now provide the end user with significantly less business risks and at the same time have lowered the number and severity of support calls to Euronet.
