Castrol
Case Study
Test runs can now be completed in just five hours - the same task would have taken 10 to 15 days without TestBench.
Our client
Castrol UK Motor Oil and Lubricants is widely acknowledged as the country's leading specialist provider of lubricant solutions. Although mostly known for their car and bike lubricants they also produce lubricants for gas and electricity production, construction and earth moving equipment, refrigeration, metalworks and plastics.
Why they came to us
When Castrol (UK) became subject to a take over from BP there was a huge reorganisation and consolidation of business practices, which inevitably put pressure on the IT department to cope with system changes. One of their main projects was to complete a data conversions and migration project across pricing, invoicing, customer maintenance and ledger programmes.
What we did
Castrol (UK) implemented Original Software's TestBench solution. The data protection facility within TestBench meant that the data was never corrupted so tests could be run and re-run with the minimum of preparation - a vital time saver. The solution also ensured continued integrity of core systems throughout the changes.
How it worked out
Peter Giles, IT Project Manager responsible fo all pricing, invoicing and customer data analysis for Castrol (UK) commented to us, "TestBench means we can test critical areas of the systems to levels we just could not achieve manually. We can now concentrate on adding power and coverage to the test scenarios and make them more and more intensive."
"The great thing about TestBench is that we can rely on it to cover every detail, every time. The testing gets more and more solid as the number of test runs increase. It means we have much greater coverage of all our systems, but it takes a fraction of the time."
"The process is now highly efficient. Development staff can concentrate on development and we Let TestBench do the testing for us."
The efficiency of the IT department is vital to the continued growth and globilisation of Castrol. TestBench has enabled us to tie up the area of testing, allowing us to focus our attentions on more strategic business oriented issues.
Peter Giles, IT Project Manager, Castrol (UK)
