Software Testing Hall of Shame: Tesco’s off its trolley

12 May 2009

Spotted a great feature on ZDNet today that fits nicely into our ‘Software Testing Nightmares’ hall of fame – check out that area on our website here.

Supermarket chain Tesco has been unable to take money at a number of its stores following technical problems affecting its tills.

It seems that the supermarket giant’s problems were caused by software updates that hadn’t been thoroughly tested before going live.

Checkouts at 67 of Tesco’s UK stores were not working, according to Tesco. Some stores had to close as a result. Tesco’s spokesperson declined to comment on how much business the company may have lost.
