Foundry burns through business process capture forming the moulds for automation

One of Europe’s largest foundry groups needed to implement a significant upgrade to the latest version of Infor M3, not having updated for 9-10 years.

This was a new challenge for a company proficient in the production of molds and castings for over 120 years but lacking the benefit of an internal QA department.

For the project to succeed, it was essential that they were able to both record their current processes and test that the upgraded software was compatible with these processes.

Harnessing non-technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from across the business, they set out to record their procedures.

To minimise the disruption caused by taking SMEs away from their day jobs, Original Software’s Test Management tool, Qualify, was deployed to help the project team structure the processes that required testing and assign the tasks.

Manually recording the processes would take too long and be prone to error. Instead, using TestAssist, they managed to capture all their activities in a matter of weeks and turned them into documentation and video files.

The next stage is for the project team to review the processes and, with the help of TestDrive, automate them.

The goal is to automate as many of these processes as possible, with the outcome that the testing can be performed with minimal impact on the SME’s time.

Test cases are a bit like moulds; once created, they allow for an easy, repeatable process.

Original Software’s solutions have empowered this foundry to mitigate the risk of this significant upgrade project.
