HP QC/ALM Survey results – I’m really not surprised

As a former Quality Center user, I am not surprised at the high level of frustration with its poor functionality, particularly reporting, customizations, and integrations. Things have moved on, and in the 21st century, there is a modern alternative.

Nor am I surprised that some unenlightened users are content with QC/ALM’s limited offering. It’s a bit like when the brick phones came out in the 1980s – they were a revelation at the time, and you were grateful for having something “mobile” even if they weighed a ton. Who would have dreamt then of having one the size of a chocolate bar that would fit in your pocket and have more computing power than the NASA Apollo 11 mission that put a man on the moon?

Most of us have a smartphone and certainly don’t need to be a programmer to use it. In fact, we all probably know a small child who can use one better than ourselves. So why do some of us in this business continue to work with a relic dating back 4 decades?

I’m lucky, I’ve moved on, and life’s a chunk easier.
